LadyG
If you are essentially wanting an artificial lawn, you need to dig out the soil , fill with clinker , gravel etc, roll flat [power roller], and then lay the surface, otherwise you will end up with a B&Q fiasco. There is also matting which grass grows though, might be OK for relatvely light use on well drained soil. Or just lay a path. 'Decent' artificial grass is expensive, the cheap stuff is rubbish. For 'grass' that will last more than a year (or so) go for a 30mm or thicker & expect to pay around £20 per square metre, a 2mt x 10 metre roll is £400 and you will need 2 rolls. You can get 'green carpet' for about £4 - £5 per square metre but you will regret it.
blackrose
I'd check how slippery it is when it's wet before putting it alongside the boat.
