OK , the contractors finished work on Friday at 11 am.  They weren't responsible for opening the lock,  CRT are.

The contractors were adamant that the mortar needed another few days. Chaps from CRT came at 10.30 ish, decided that the lock would not open until Monday. "...I'm  the guy that will be organising the fences and stop planks to come out and with the mortar like that I won' be back until Monday...so probably lunchtime it will be open."

Matt goes home. Arrives back early Monday to find lock all clear and was opened Sat am. Half a day wasted and cost of train tickets on top.

The worst but about the whole thing, is that the mortar STILL hasn' gone off,  and there is already a fountain out of the new brickwork.
