mark99
I need to replace a 3 foot long water damaged veneer panel. It's cherry I think (or mahogany) and 75mm wide. Where does one get this sort of veneer from?
Stilllearning
Obviously not from Oak Furniture Land, there being no veneer in ‘ere.....
Richard T
Try furniture makers near to where you live. What you want is really an offcut. I'm not convinced that its cherry the grain looks wrong. It will be difficult to get a match of grain and colour, you may have to buy something withn the right grain and experiment with different stains and varnishes to get the colour. mark99
Mahogany? There are cherry veneers a lot lighter. I think this would be one of the dark cherrys. Anyway yes I can see some stain experiments needed! Edited January 20, 2018 by mark99
WotEver
This looks like it could work: http://www.thewoodveneerhub.co.uk/wood-store/wood-veneers/decorative-veneers/sapele/ Cheap enough You could send them your photo and ask what they’ve got that’s closest. mark99
Decided to use hardwood ply and stain it with satin stain. After tests it's looks like using walnut stain first and adding as a top a bit of mahog. brush on wax to bring back the red tone. Other stains tried but they came our as poor match despite the tin colour "matching". Edited January 21, 2018 by mark99

I’ve spent many an unhappy hour trying to match colours and I’ve never got very good at it.
BWM
Warrens in west Drayton have a good stock of both common and unusual timber, and should be able to help. Edited January 21, 2018 by BWM
