Aguila
I wonder why kill cords aren't aren't used much on canal boats? If a solo boater falls overboard, it would stop his boat disappearing over the horizon into the sunset!

Mostly you fall in when getting off/on the boat which you are already stopped anyhow. Edited January 16, 2018 by Robbo
Boat&Bikes
First thing I did when we brought our current boat was fit a kill cord. Wife insisted on it as it had 7 more HP than our previous boat. Ian.

I don't think many NBs will go in a straight line long enough to 'disappear over the horizon' - take your hand off the tiller and within a few seconds they are into the trees. alan_fincher
Would be quite complicated to arrange on either of our boats. Stopping the engine requires a walk along the gunwales, and climbing in to the engine room.

Because pretty soon it will hit something and stop, that is if it actually travels fast enough that you can't catch up with it!
Paul C
FFS its not a jetski. Also, when single handing, I frequently let the dog drive the boat whilst operating the locks. I think she would find it annoying and would wriggle out of a kill cord with her paws. 1

Aguila
Does on the L+L. It could bounce from bank to bank for miles unless it clobbers some poor souls boat.
