dor
A great character. I went into one of his places once. The menu was mouth-watering, but the price of the dried pasta in the shop was eye-watering...

tomsk
A knowledgeable and competent cook by vocation. I've not read his books or eaten at 'his' establishments but he always seemed interested despite his battles with The Black Dog. The man knew his mushrooms. T'internet tells me that this phrase, of which I had been unaware, means "depression" and that it was possibly coined by, and certainly popularised by, Sir Winston Churchill. Dashed educational, this show.
pearley
His TV series, Two Greedy Italians, is worth watching, not just for the food but his love of Italy and to hear about his upbringing.

Machpoint005
In view of the apparent non-fame of the gentleman in question, while not wanting to appear too harsh, wouldn't a more appropriate thread title be "old man dies"? (I had heard of him, BTW).
