The Building Centre is hosting a discussion on the future of design regarding canals. It may be interesting to anyone who is close enough to attend.

Sounds quite interesting, and it's in London, but it clashes with my board games evening in Croydon so I'm out. I hope someone goes and reports back to the forum on what CRT and others seem to be thinking.

I note that a man from Ealing Council will be on the panel, so maybe they're looking at how their part of the Paddington Arm, which has a bit of a dodgy reputation for crime, can be improved.

Oh gawd!

"The 200-year-old canal system offers some of the most complex development opportunities in the UK.... Canals have obvious appeal to developers for their historic building stock, easy connections to city centres and waterside views. ..."

The speakers also include Effie Kuan, Design Partner at Farrells and member of the team that developed the myKanaal concept.

A quick google reaches https://www.buildingcentre.co.uk/nighttime/mykanaal :

"myKanaal is an app-driven proposal to transform London’s waterways into a network of floating markets that operate around the clock. .... Boat shops will not only be trendy destinations but also bring valuable amenities closer to people who work unconventional hours and would benefit from the convenience, safety, and delight of a 24-hour corner store, yoga studio, or micro-brewery!

The myKanaal app will be a two-way platform that directs boat traders to available mooring spots and alerts Londoners to shops and services near them.

In the future, we can imagine a nationwide network of travelling markets, taking their fun and whimsy wherever they go."

But where would these floating shops moor given the congestion in London :P
