Kindred Spririt Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Hi I have recently taken ownership of a narrowboat with a jabsco water filter fitted. I am not sure how old the cartridge is or was. This morning the cartridge broke sending a flood of water everywhere. Luckily I had a spare and fitted it. However I found that the little blue clips that hold the main pipework in came out fairly easily. I have pushed them back in and turned water back on and the unit holds but I am now concerned to go out leaving the water on Is it good practice to turn the water off when leaving the boat to go to work? Are these reliable units or would I be better to take the filter out altogether Any thoughts apprecaited Thanks
Tony Brooks Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Good practice - yes Why do you need a filter at all?
Kindred Spririt Posted July 5, 2017 Author Report Posted July 5, 2017 The filter was already installed when I took over the boat I will ensure I turn off the water when out and about - I do the same with gas to be safe!
Tony Brooks Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 By turn off I only mean flip the pump switch to off. Many of us see no need to have a water filter. If you have a mild steel thank that needs recoating so the water is rust coloured then it may be easier to fit a filter than do the tank but as a mild steel tank is usually part of the hull I would want to re-coat it in case it was badly pitted - if it punctured you would need a filter, a dam good one at that!
