Looks good.  Dont leave it on too long.  The chalk paint will slow the rusting under it and the rest willl carry on normally.  Leaving you with lettering etched onto the panels.

Its an incredible build you are doing and this is such a great thread 🙂 ..I check here for updates and to read the discussions regularly and wanted to say thank you for sharing it here 👍👊

I loved the Progress ( GUCCCo ) thread when that was getting updated regularly as well but that one has fallen away ..

Good for you 👍🙏

If that (beautiful!) deckboard is oak, I hope you're aware that according to some it'll go black in a few years... 😉

The hull looks splendid, it'll swim like a fish... 🙂

Do I see that on this wooden boat replica you are even joining the steel 'planks' with scarf joints?

you are indeed correct.....

Will you weld everything just on the inside so all the "Plank" joints show

no the opposite, that way the weld lines will look like pitch in the seams.......

This is going to be quite a work of art! Can't wait to see how you get on. Our lad is a classic car fabricator and we are following  your project with interest.

Indeed, I don't think anything quite like this has ever been built before -- the end result should really be something to see... 🙂

The big question is, when are you starting on the seams?

Alec

we have started, @tom_c has been filling bits of chine in. my plan is to get all the merchant bar off the floor and tacked on so we can have a bit of working space....

Thanks Bee, i'd love a grant, i did think about going down a research and development tax relief route as the whole point is to build hulls which are hydrodynamic, but i don't think it would be successful as it isn't that unique a project, no more so than someone building a josher replica...... a proper one mind. i suspect the tax office wouldn't care about a knobstick or a josher or a union boat in their eyes they are just boats....

Truly remarkable dedication and skill.

As an ex-resident of Heanor, I had no idea of the extent of the activity going on at Langley Mill until now.

boat building and repairs have always taken place here, we took over 8 years ago but don't plan on building constantly. with the theatre work I just don't have the time sadly.
