Limehouse Basin Visitor Moorings Trial

Moorings-300x200.jpg

BWML are proposing changes to the visitor wall moorings at Limehouse Marina to enable a range of different craft to use them. This involves new pontoons along the Basin wall providing better disabled access to visiting boats, as well as providing the capacity for visiting sailing boats coming in off the Thames. The current length of free 24 hour moorings will be retained, with additional space for those wanting to stay for more than 24 hours while they visit London. Before submitting a planning application for the physical changes, BWML are working with CRT to test the impact this might have on navigation, turning within the basin and access to the public boater facilities. From 1 June for a month, we will be floating five yellow buoys with a line between them to mark the extent of the proposed new pontoons. Please observe local signage and be aware of the waterspace restrictions.

I just wonder how many of these moorings will be free as now and whether any new space will really be created as there will be less room  for breasting up

I wonder whether the new  pontoons will be suitable  for full length narrowboats or will they be designed for sailing boats etc coming off the river ?

The info on BWML's website is misleading, as the plan in the lock office shows a much reduced length of 24hr moorings. The new pontoons will be charged at the marina visitor rates. What will be left of the 24hr moorings is also at the lock end of the moorings where it narrows so breasting up will be limited.

A planning application has now been submitted by BWML for this

https://development.towerhamlets.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=DCAPR_124097

Although slightly modified to the image I posted in June last year, there is a significant reduction to the 24 hour moorings currently available.

Currently the moorings are free for 24hrs then £25/night non bookable

The visitor moorings will be £4.25/m/day (£76/day for a 60ft boat) with no free 24hr period. bookable only and pay in advance I think

The  BWML proposal to install finger moorings where the current visitor moorings are has been refused by the local authority (Tower Hamlets):

Page 4 gives the reasons

Word on the street is that BWML will not be appealing the decision
