Blue flames from donated wood

As per title, I've been given some wood which I've put in the stove. I've just gone to refill and there are blue flames coming off some.

Clearly I'm going to stop burning it now I've seen the flames.

My reason for posting is curiosity as to what it is, I'm thinking maybe tanalisation (sp?) or some other protection?

Well seasoned hardwood will burn with a blue flame as will some resinous pines.

Is it the blue of a gas cooker flame or much brighter?

 

Caesium and lead compounds give a blue flame when placed in a flame. It could be paint or preservatives remnants.

Preservatives was my thought tbh, Although without a valid reason to think so...

No nails, looks like off cuts from something or other. I think I'm swaying to not burning, there's not a lot and I'm stocked pretty well so no real hardship.

Birch wood produces both blue and green flames when well seasoned, as do some other varieties.

Sounds dangerous to me, best thing to do is burn it.

If there is no 'off' smell I would burn it.

If you also get red, green, yellow and white flames it would only be safe to burn whilst singing "Burn baby burn, disco inferno"
