Warning light

IF and its now a big if you can pull that bulb from the metal holder you could replace it with a filament bulb. However although the top picture seems to show the little glass/ceramic ball that often supports the filament uprights the middle one seem to show a clear flat top inside the glass envelope therefore I think it is an LED and will never energise the alternator.

I very much fear that you won't be able to get the "bulb" out of the holder because LEDs "never fail" so are fixed for life. I think the larger cap diameter just below the glass envelope in your earlier photos tends to confirm this because it houses the electronics.

Its a very common plastic part so you may be able to simple swap the metal bulb holder for one that actually carries a bulb but I would go for a larger lamp like Vehicle Wiring Products 739600 or GE39R.  https://www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk/c-63-warning-lights

Get one that uses 987 or 989 bulb. The 989 is a 5 Watt bulb and can usually be swapped for a 4 Watt 233 in the same lamp assembly. You may need to search for suitable lamps so I would advise looking for your local autoelectrical specialists.

I have the Lister ST2 which also has the alternator drive off the camshaft, even with the its 10'' pulley the light with a 2.2w bulb in it struggled to start the charge without revving the engine quite high. I put in the the large bulb holder with 5w bulb and which goes out and starts the charge instantly the engine is starts. I glued a red plastic nozzle cap from an aerasol can over the bulb to look right, the holder and bulb slide out from behind if needed. The excitement was the exactly same with the old ACR alternator as it is with the present modern 70amp Nippon one which I had going spare which I fitted.

Hi

I very much doubt it. I think that one is an LED as well but it might have an inbuilt parallel resistor as it states its or an IGNITION warning lamps and not a charge warning lamp you need. It seems one side connects to earth  (12V-) so I doubt it is anything other than an LED for boy racer types.

Please stop buying from the net and the likes of Halfords. You need a lamp with an old fashioned BULB in it of at least 2 watts. Otherwise I think your first purchase will work as long as you put a resistor between the two terminals.  I am not sure of the value but I think maybe 40 ohms but others will, I hope, give chapter and verse.

Look for  a warning lamp with a removable bulb. I doubt it will have any wiring tails on it and it may look a bit like your first effort but the bulb holder will pull out of the    plastic body - then you can remove the bulb. IF the bulb is not removable and is the size of a grain of wheat its the wrong type of lamp.

You could always fit it and see if it works.

Much obliged tony

got a pack of 5watt bulbs ordered from osram arriving Tuesday-Wednesday

your help much appreciated

I think the 5w bulb may have a much bigger globe than the 3w one in your pic. Although the 5w bulb cap and bayonet pins should fit that holder ok.

Thank you biz

now I need to know where the negative and positive leads fasten on to

this is a learning curve for me

your tuition is very much appreciated

It won't matter which way round you connect a bulb type lamp but is likely to with an L:ED.

Taking the lamp in the photo above. One lead to the ignition on terminal of the ignition switch and the other to the small warning lamp terminal on the alternator. Often marked D+. You may well have to extend one lead and shorten the other for a neat job.

It's a LED. Very ornamental.  No use for what you need. As has been said , You need a FILLAMENT LIGHT BULB.

Its moved on a long way from that post. She now has a proper 5 watt bulb in another holder. See four posts back.
