Martin Megson
Hi, I've just come through lock 35 on the L&L which had new top gates fitted last month and was surprised at the amount of leakage through the cill. Juts wondered if new gates take a while to bed in and this is normal or if there is a fault.
Mac of Cygnet
Probably something stuck between the cill and the gate.
Martin Megson
Probably something stuck between the cill and the gate. Ah didn't think of that There are quite a few branches down after the gales. Hopefully I cleared it as I went through.
Iain_S
Or a gate sagged slightly, so that the mitres don't meet quite properly. From the photo, it looks like the left hand gate is slightly off the cill. The middle gates on the staircase on the Edinburgh and Glasgow Union quite often go like that. I've seen it fixed by a swift drop kick on the end of the balance beam, which I found quite surprising e.t.a. Probably not a good idea if it's a wooden beam. Bunny
A few years ago we had several new gates leaking like that on the k and a, when we asked why , we were told the wood had to expand to fit properly . Bunny .
