Info on residential moorings in Edinburgh

Hi

Anyone here who would be so kind as to provide some info on residential moorings in Edinburgh?

Where is the best place to look for available moorings?

What is the average cost of moorings?

What is the licence fee in Scotland?

Have had a narrowboat on the Thames for years, but expect things to be slightly different on the Scottish Canals.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Edinburgh Quay appeared to have a lot of empty berths when we visited in July, they all have electrical outlets but not water points (only at the scottish canals office near the entrance and the finger berths at the end). Its only a short walk to the castle & a bit longer to city centre /rail station.

see link below for information on Lockrin Basin

I have no doubt the Scottish forum members would be able to provide more pertinent information when they next log in.

I'm not sure if there any available at Edinburgh Quay. Scottish Canals would be the people to contact.

There is currently a bit of a dispute going on between Scottish Canals and boaters re the cost of moorings, which in Edinburgh are currently in excess of £4000 per year, As part of the "consultation", S.C. carried out a survey of mooring prices. There were obvious flaws in their survey, and they commissioned an external one. This, however, used some of the flawed logic and figures used in the first one. (e.g. cost of mooring should be comparable to rent of a two bedroom flat, comparing S.C. moorings with fully serviced marina moorings, with security, on-site drydock, chandlery, etc) If the survey results are implemented in full, the cost of a mooring will rise substantially.

There is a Yahoo group (Boaters-Group@Yahoo.com) which consists of boaters who are trying to keep Scottish Canals in check.

We didn't fancy being surrounded with all the buildings at Edinburgh Quay and so chose Ratho which is about 8 miles east of the city centre.

Yes an impressive looking marina with a great pub across the canal, unfortunately for the OP, the "Living on Water" web site reports it as fully let.

As well as the Ratho mooings in the "marina" there are on line moorings just across the canal. Don't know if they are full but there are quite a few liveaboards there.
