Is it just a bolt or is there a nut as well? It's almost certainly metric and probably 8, 10 or 12mm ie M8, M10 or M12 thread.

Sounds like this might be a long micro adjusting screw, in which case it might be a special. If it is this screw its quite common for them to snap or strip the thread when someones tried to adjust the belt tension with it but without slackening the ''usually two'' main alternator mounting nuts and bolts first.

The OPs last post did not add much, maybe it is a 'special'.

My 'adjusting' bolt has an 'eye' on the end of it.

Thanks for your help all. I had to get the part made. A R Valli and sons on Uxbridge industrial estate. Canny bloke and did it the same day
