The NLS webite has a fabulous selection of maps which can be varied over sattelite images:

http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16&lat=52.2904&lon=-1.2087&layers=10&b=1

Use the slider to vary transparency, this is the best overlay I have ever come across.

Not sure if this is any good for what you want but if you download this and then open, it opens Google Earth with colour coded canals.

Put Braunston in search top left.

Go to PLACES and you can adjust what you see.

Trouble is the NLS maps generally do not cover the Oxford prior to 1830, whereas some other sources do. The Government early survey of 1809-18.-- does show routes per county. There are also early county maps in archives. Essentially the Oxford Canal at Braunston original route was through the boatyard before crossing under the road through Wolfhamcote to cross the new route south of the aqueduct only to rejoin it later.

But most of the old canal line is still traceable on the NLS maps. For example http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/sidebyside.cfm#zoom=16&lat=52.2878&lon=-1.2122&layers=176&right=BingHyb clearly shows the line running southwest of what is now Braunston Marina, marked "Old Canal".
