Just wondering what CC's are planning to prepare for winter?

Not sure if the media is scouring crystal balls, or are listening to weather experts, it's being said to prepare for a 2016 winter big freeze. http://www.express.co.uk/news/weather/714262/UK-snow-long-range-weather-forecast-cold-winter-2016-Britain-freeze

that was an awful lot of reading to summarise " winter's coming... it might get cold for months on end"

I shall ignore all that and just keep an eye on the 5 day forecast... and even then, take that with a pinch of salt - 24...48 hours ahead is as much as we can trust .

Keep coal in and diesel and water topped up... 'nuff said.

Was just commenting today at work, a plant nursery, that our holly trees have an abundance of berries on them, more than we have seen in recent years. Just done a Google search and the hard winter of 2010 was preceded by an abundance of holly berries.

Interesting I was just thinking as a strolled down a lane this afternoon "what a lot of berries" - Holly, Rowan and Hawthorn.

Where is the best bit of the network to cc/moor for the winter, cc while weather is good, but have a marina to cower in if weather gets too bad?? Obviously you have to pick a bit between the stoppages, just wondering if anyone has any good ideas?

If you google for it the express said that in 2013, 2014 and 2015 as well.

It may or may not be very cold but it will certainly be dark. Check all your torches and throw away all the ones that have been a bit doddery for some time and replace them. Get that headtorch that you have had in the back of your mind for some time(!). Get in a good supply of torch batteries.

Throw away (if you can afford to) the stashe of tinned food that you bought as an emergency reserve for last winter and replace it. A recent TV program claimed to show that tinned food holds its goodness for many years - this may be true but it tastes less and less satisfactory. Six month old rice pudding is not as nice as more recent stuff. Tinned stuff that has gone below freezing is usually less edible as well.

Buy any winter clothes you will need NOW as by the time the need arises the infernal shops will be selling beachwear.

Don't throw food away if it's still edible! If it doesn't suit your delicate palate, donate it to your local food bank.
