Emmo
I typed "exhaust sleeve" into Midland Chandlers' website expecting to be taken straight to one, but no! Same with several other online chandlers. My boat (built 2001 by Ledgard Bridge) has a flexible sleeve over the exhaust pipe, fastened with press studs, which protects against burns from the hot pipe. I had assumed this was a standard arrangement, but clearly not. The sleeve is now falling apart so it needs replacing. I know about exhaust lagging, but the sleeve seems a better option. Can they be obtained anywhere?

Tony Brooks
I think most steel boast use glass fibre bandage/webbing and just wrapped around the pipe several times. It can be secured by strands of copper wire taken from scrap household wiring. I have seen sleeves such as you talk about around the exhaust manifolds on, shall we say, budget marinisations. BlueStringPudding
My engine exhaust has the bandage type that Tony describes. My Eber exhaust has a brightly coloured sock over it which is fabric on the inside and silicon on the outside (from eBay). This is a tube though so can't be retrospectively fitted to an exhaust pipe without detaching the pipe first.
andyb116
Sounds like by the description of the presstudded sleeve that you have a barrus shire/shanks engine, these sleeves are unique to these engines and are only available from them as far as I know.
