Hey Folks

Pretty new to canal boating, actually just looking in to getting my first boat.

I lived on a power boat when I was living in Hawaii and it had one of these toilets. It seemed like am amazing system.

I was wondering if they are legal over here and if anyone has every installed one on a Canal boat.

Cheers

Welcome.

Canals are not salty. wink.png

Two usual systems on canals are cassette ( think caravans, small motor homes) or pump out, ( large 'black' tank on board) there is also composting system , that do not actually compost.

It seems to discharge into the surrounding water and not into any kind of holding tank so I would not have thought it would be acceptable on any waterway where discharge from a sea toilet is not permitted. If it discharges into a holding tank then there doesn't seem to be any particular advantage in what is probably a very expensive system (I haven't located the price).

electro scan™ is a U. S. Coast Guard Certified Type I Marine Sanitation Device for use on inspected and uninspected vessels 65 feet (19.7 Meters) and under. It must be operated within areas that are not declared a Federal No Discharge Zone (NDZ) by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is applicable for all U.S. territorial waters inside the three mile limit. Other countries - check with local authorities

Their own manual specifically prohibits use in US inshore waters, so yes it could only be used where a standard sea toilet could be as far as I can see.

The same site also says it can be plumbed into a holding tank, but as Lysander has said, this doesn't seem to offer any advantage over the standard UK (untreated) system.

edit - they do supply a salt feed system for use in brackish / fresh water, but I still can't see where one would be allowed to discharge this overboard?
