vickic
Hi I expect this has been answered before but we want to visit Chester Zoo, am I right in thinking we can moor up at Caughall Bridge and walk to the Zoo. Can anyone supply details of walking time and distance and is it signposted? Thanks Vicki
b0atman
I was on crutches at the time straight up the hill to the main road and there was a side entrance that you could go in (2011) At other bridge ? walk past garage showrooms and you get to Cheshire oaks Outlet centre and Blue planet aquarium. Sea Dog
Yes, you can. 10-15 minute walk, poorly signed from the moorings. Come up to the road from under the bridge and you'll see where a sign was, up a post pointing to what's up and down the road. The missing one should point over the road towards a concrete path. Follow that path up to the zoo, which you can't miss once you're on that path. Two tips. 1. Go early. They open at 10am andclose at 5pm (6pm in the kids summer hols). You won't get round it all if you arrive at lunchtime. 2. You can save money by booking online by 9am on the day. It's 20 quid iirc, instead of 24 on the gate. However, on the gate includes an extra 10% donation if you also gift aid, so the saving isn't actually 4 quid, it's about 2.
dogless
The cafe at the entrance opens at 9.30am so you have a cuppa till the turnstiles open at 10 and waste no time We had a terrific day in there last summer. There are lockers at the entrance for hire. We took a picnic, put it in a locker until we were ready for it. Worked well for us. The moorings are great, and very peaceful we found. The walk is uphill but very short. We moored the previous day, and walked up on a recce that evening. The footpath actually goes through the zoo, with sneaky peaks at various animals for free. We only saw the cheetahs that evening. They hid out of sight once we were paying customers. Have fun, we did Rog Edited July 6, 2016 by dogless
