Shooting of liveaboard boater Jo Cox MP

Many members won't be aware (I wasn't) that the MP who was shot in Birstall this afternoon, Jo Cox, is a boater whose London home is a barge on the Thames. Hoping she pulls through.

I have heard nothing about this, as I listen to news bulletins only in the morning and late in the evening; has anyone suggested why this obviously deranged man carried out this attack? Was he attacking Mrs. Cox because she was an M.P. or at random? Is there a suspicion of terrorist motives?

I'm sure the circumstances will become clear in time, but until they do, it may be best not speculate, for fear of prematurely blaming the wrong faction or the wrong motive.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jo Cox twice concerning the Refugee Crisis. She was a great advocate for all refugees a true humanitarian she will be missed by many and remembered by millions.

I have to admit I hadn't really heard of her, and I consider myself a bit of a politics nerd. But she was clearly, and deservedly, a rising star who had done a lot of good in her career before entering Parliament, and no doubt would have gone on to achieve much more as an MP and a campaigner. A very, very sad day.
