Where could I get an Enfield Z drive serviced in the London, Hertfordshire areas?

Featured Posts

I am thinking of buying a boat probably a small GRP with an enfield leg. I have heard that these must be serviced reguarly, and I lack the mechanical know how for this. Does anyone know of yards or engineers reasonably local to me who can do this? I live close to the Rivers Lea and Stort.

Thank you.

I just popped your question title into Google, as I imagine you also did.

Chertsy Meads Marine seems the only place Sarf, possibly the only place anywhere as they claim ......

Originally manufactured in UK by the Royal Enfield Company (no longer in existance), taken over by Perkins Engines for a while, re-homed on the Isle of Wight, now manufactured in Birmingham (UK), main source of information, replacements and spares Chertsey Meads Marine.

Over the years I've had a cruiser with an Enfield Z leg and a widebeam river boat with twin Enfield Z legs. Although I never had any issues with mine I think I was very lucky. They'll all be a fair age by now and the monopoly means you're dealing with one bloke at the source of bits and bobs, and we all know what it's like trying to deal with a monopoly!

Get the Outdrive Checked out by a skilled Engineer Before you Purchase the Boat!

If there has been water ingress from the seals or Bellows the entire unit could be beyond economic repair.

A replacement could cost 2-2.5 K,likely more than the value of the Boat?

Outdrives are the work of the devil I wouldn't consider one for use on the canals/rivers, open sea yes anywhere where they can be snagged no.

I am never likely to change from the single shaft E27 to a twin engine Project 31 as they are nearly all on Enfield or ovlov legs.

This is a good thing, I haven't quite finished this one so thinking about starting on a rocking horse poo boat makes no sense.
