dekker
Hi can anyone offer advice about taking the paint back to bare metal with a "Rotivator type machine." I have been told that some boatyards do it this way. Any useful comments would be appreciated. Looking for a good pain job in the midlands. Thanks Dekker
NB Watersnail
I know it as a scrabbler. A wonderful machine that strips paint off of flat surfaces. Then a needle gun to get into the corners. Downside, you'll end up with no fillings left, no sensation in your hands or arms and probably the start of tinnitus if you don't wear good hearing protection. If you can pay someone to do it for you - that's the best way! Grit blasting may be a better option.

matty40s
This boat came in with 10 and 20 year old paint, some bits looked after/touched up, some bits not. Some paint can be used as a base, lots not. After scabbling gunnels, roof and front end. entire rear end , decks and other areas have been stripped back as well. [/url] After you have scabbled, you still need to sand to a fully smooth surface, you can see the two areas here. Mendip-Locks
Dekker you won't get much better advice than watching John Barnard from Debdale with 8 or 9 videos here http://www.johnbarnard.biz/tips-tricks-videos/ and he runs painting courses as well. Ade Edited to add there's only 7 there a couple more on his Utube channel. Edited May 26, 2016 by Mendip-Locks
