Tidal River Trent mobile app - University Project

Hi all,

I'm hoping that some of you wonderful people will be able to help me out. I'm a student at the University of Lincoln and for my 3rd year project I am developing an application for mobile devices to help people to navigate through the tidal river Trent.

The aim of the project is to create an app that can overlay navigation charts onto a GPS map to alert users of upcoming hazards. The app may also include features such as tide times and other potentially useful functionality. The reason I'm posting this is to get some thoughts on the project from the type of people who might use it so I was hoping you could let me know such things as:

What do you think of the project idea?

What features would you want it to include?

Would it make you more confident navigating the river?

Id really like to get some of your thoughts on this so thank you for reading if you have any questions please do ask them and I hope to talk to you all soon.

Speaking from my limited experience of the tidal Trent i wouldn't want to rely on something which can go flat and can easily be dropped in the water. Also not sure about all providers but i found i had between 1 bar and zero signal in the area around Trent falls at anchor when i checked my 10 year old nokia. Maybe owners of boats with an enclosed wheelhouse with a handy charging point would benefit more. Just my thoughts.
