Hello there folks,

Ive been scouring the internet to find a copy of 'the importance of being albert'

A BBC documentary about the restoration of wooden narrowboat albert in the 90s..

(the reason being that I keep having this annoying drive to attempt something similar and I could seriously do with a realitysanity/wallet check on the subject)

But annoyingly I havent been able to find a copy anywhere, even to buy..

Does anyone here have a copy by any chance that i could access somehow?

Thanks all for your time.. s

Check out Imdb or BFI, I don't think this was ever released as a stand alone VHS or DVD. I am surprised it didn't feature in something like the "Golden age of canals", it was a good programme.

I just watched it, and I'm pleased that I did. His skill, patience and perseverance are something to behold.

Has Chris Collins gone on to become a full time boatbuilder/restorer?

This thread seems to suggest he did :)

Although he hasn't been on for quite a while now.

Nice film.  Annoyingly its not downloadable.

Chris Collins not been around for some years as per other thread.

I know they've said Rickmansworth - I wonder if its at Troy wharf - where Progress is ?

Not Troy wharf I've decided, but perhaps at the start of the Troy cut.

You can download from youtube and a lot of other streaming sites with a number of different apps. The most well known is youtube-dl, but the one I use now is yt-dlp, which has some features that youtube-dl does not. You can select the video quality, audio only, video only, file destination etc, so very useful, especially if you are on a metered intertubes connection. Both work on linux, windows and probably macs, though I've not tried that.

I've downloaded this film to watch later.

I thought YouTube was ruining the canals according to some on this forum.

Bloomin 1990's era BBC. Making out restoring an old working boat was dead easy and any one could do it. Encouraging newbies to waste all their money and years of their lives trying to do the same.

Where is Albert now?

These boats were built with a working lifespan of 30 years or so, and over 30 years on from the rebuild I imagine some further fettling may now be needed.
