Fuel sulphur content and stove glass crazing?

Hi.

I am replacing the glass in my stove as it is badly crazed. The glass suppliers have advised that to avoid crazing, the glass should be cleaned regularly and that a fuel low in sulphur should be used.

Does this make sense to people, and does anyone know which fuels are lower in Sulphur? We use Excel currently.

Thanks.

I can't tell you which is low in sulphur but I can say we used Stoveglow for a few years and then had a bad batch which was very high in sulphur; one accidental breath taken on the towpath downwind of the boat would have you coughing with a burning throat for 15 minutes. It totally frosted the inside of the glass within a few days, and then after a week it corroded the internal brackets which held the stove together so it fell apart. We had to buy a new stove and certainly won't use Stoveglow again.

Ouch.

Just a vote from the opposition, we LOVE Stoveglow, with its clotting green ash and long overnight endurance.

You must have had a rogue bag.
