Ambush & Viktoria

Fantastic sight. But nippy for the steerers though by the look of it

Some boatmen, particularly on the Bridgewater, had a fire bucket, whilst on the L&LC there was a tradition of step dancing to keep warm. The introduction of steam and diesel engines improved matters as they gave a beat to dance to. There is a video on Youtube of Bill Gibbons performing at Burscough in 1980.

Great pic. Cloudinspector. Love seeing these boats on the move.

Derek sells diesel too at good prices both from his boat and will deliver diesel and coal via his van.

A great guy.

Great boats indeed. I saw Viktoria at Busrcough last week and she was looking good.

There are now several ways people can get involved with traditional boats on the L&LC. Obviously, Viktoria is one, and I have encouraged a link between them and the Waterways Museum's rebuilt George, which should be back on the canal by the middle of this year. These two boats will be promoting the canal's history and heritage between Liverpool and Wigan. Over in East Lancashire and West Yorkshire, is the L&LC Society's Kennet, which can now concentrate more on that area, but will be travelling over the whole canal in this the 200th Anniversary Year of the canal's opening from Leeds to Liverpool. These are some of the L&LC Society's Kennet volunteers at the recent lock naming and L&LC book launch at Bank Newton. All the groups are looking for more volunteers to help!
