Hello me hearties,

We have one of these routers. Can't find any information on which connectors are required to use the external function. The unit has two little aerea antenna ports, presumably female. Anyone have one?

Cheers!

Websites seem to differ. Some say 'CRC9' , and others say 'TS9' or 'SMA'

Any ideas on the difference?

Dongles often had a CRC9 socket, but any routers had a TS9 socket (Lord knows why because the connectors are very similar) - a complet pain for folks who migrate upwards.

AFAIK definitely NOT SMA - it's a much different plug and socket arrangement.

I've just looked at Huawei's silent and as usual 'as a p in bath'. very frustrating.

I've just bought an R216 from ebay - big mistake as this vodafone version is unlockable - you can't get at the USB interface to unlock it, it needs a COM port for that which Voda have stripped out....

It looks much like your unit so I suspect it's a TS9 - there's no good reason to have something different (if it's got a scket at all which some just don't have). Huawei's idiot guide doesn't show anty sockets, but the specs: say 'two sockets'

AAAAGGRRRRGGGGHH.

:D glad I'm not the only one.

I think I'll take the thing to a specialist shop and get them to just stick connectors on until we arrive at a result. I have a TS9 magmounted antenna, which does work... but I need a cable tie to hold the connector in place. I've been supplied with what I'm guessing are CRC, but these don't fit either.

Sigh.

I use a '3' Wifi with two sockets. I only need one.

I have a good connection almost everywhere using a Boaters Phone Company 3G antennae for a 4G set up.

And I have good phone coverage in this old Faraday cage with it.

If you know someone who speaks German, this is a Youtube vid of unboxing. From 2:44 onwards seems to deal with the antenna and a couple of patch pigtails. I think the pigtails convert to SMA, but I cant work out what he says about the connectors to the mifi end sad.png

Oddly enough, I bought a Huwaei with two sockets, and it was fine except in one poor area.

Following a trip to the THREE shop, by buying a new mifi (I thought I'd lost mine, but it was under the logs, sigh) so now I have two, and a tablet which was on offer if you bought two items . I keep the cheap one in the window attached to USB, and sll seems well. So unless I needed the best wi fi, I 'd not bother about an expensive mi fi again. Not sure Farady got it right, my mobile phone works pretty well inside for ninety percent of locations, even inside the porthole area of the boat.
