But the difference us that ANT are only responsible for the locks and a few ancillary things like moorings. The EA is responsible for the channel, weirs, sluices and the like with the highway authorities and others responsible for most of the bridges. Very different from CRT's position in relation to the canals.

Thanks David, as you know the restoration of the channel was quite extensive in places. IIRC it was carried out by the Upper Avon Trust but could be wrong on the name.  I hadn’t appreciated the EA had taken that on. Perhaps it was a given as a river. Rather fortunate for the ANT!

The EA are responsible for flood control I think; on the Avon there are EA signs in various places around weirs, and there are a few movable weirs on the lower Avon and at Stratford, most other weirs are basically just piles of rocks but still I would think EA responsibility.  That said ANT are currently clearing the winter debris from weirs, there is a massive pile of debris on the upper lock landing at Harvington lock that was all on the weir 3 weeks ago, no idea if the EA fund this work or if ANT does.

Hi folks, I'm hoping to travel up the River Severn from Gloucester to Stourport in a few weeks time and wondering if it's possible to stop on the visitor moorings at Tewkesbury, either below or immediately above the Avon Lock, without having to buy an ANT visitors license? Happy to pay the visitor moorings fee, which I gather from this thread is £5 currently. Thanks in advance for any current info.

Hi, this was discussed recently, click to read.  The consensus seems to be you have to pay ANT to moor on the Avon above the lock but it’s possible to moor below and someone may be along to claim a fee. It doesn’t sound like great mooring below.

Thanks, hadn't spotted that for some reason. Agreed it doesn't look great! Might give it a miss.
