Featured Posts

Intending to have a weekend break in May or June ,in the Skipton area ( or neighbouring towns )

Are the hire companies much of a muchness or does any one of them stand out in particular ?

Also any good tips , as we are all novices ( two couples ).

Ive had one good tip so far , and that is to tahe my time and not be rushed when on the cut.

Thanks,

Silsden Boats has always had a good reputation for their boats as have Snaygill. I have never hired with either but, unless somebody knows otherwise, I would guess that both are much the same.

A weekend break won't allow you to do justice to the particular beauty and interest of the Leeds and Liverpool canal in West Yorkshire. It could well (and ought to) tempt you to a much longer holiday. The whole stretch up from Bingley to Foulridge is just outstanding!

Take it easy, take you time and enjoy the break!

Mark and Paul ,

Thanks for your replies....

I hope to visit the area briefly one day this month , to have a look at the boats and check availability.

Will check out all the sites.

Morning,

I used Snaygill a few years ago, excellent boats, excellent canal.

Depends on what you want to do, but Shire Cruisers (http://www.shirecruisers.co.uk) based at Sowerby Bridge on the Calder & Hebble offer a slightly different option, gives you the chance to experience the C&H, Aire & Calder and the L&L if you go for long enough. Not sure you will manage all of those in a weekend though, but boats are of a high quality.

Steve and Jon ,

Thanks for yor replies...

I think we will head west on the L and L....I will work out approx how far we will go , and take advice from the Co. we hire from.

Our two friends who we are hiring with , are walkers ...so there is another aspect of the weekend to put into the planning .

  • 2 months later...

Have been on holiday with Silsden Boats a couple of times and found them to be excellent.

Also, if you are mooring up at Bingley at all, check out the Five Rise Locks Hotel & Restaurant. You should be able to get a 10% discount as a canal user; fabulous food and friendly service.

Jane.
