Repair Sleeve Worn Prop Shaft

Featured Posts

One for the engineers amongst us!

For future reference; if a propshaft is worn where it passes though a dual type seal (not stuffing box) such as Volvo, Vetus etc., would a SKF speedy sleeve be suitable to cover the scored area, and keep water at bay? It seems that they are used on truck axles and suchlike.

From what I can see, they are a light interference fit, are fitted with a special tool, and run the same size seals as the unworn shaft. I would appreciate any experience or comments. Many thanks.

The SKF kit is all good but be sure the shaft is only scored and no metal is standing proud of the origional shaft diamiter. If it is smooth the shaft back.

The shaft must be clean and the sleve of compatable metal to the shaft. I use a drop of Loctite 638 (other tin glues exist etc..) as a belt and braces measure.
