Down here I saw episode 3, which focussed particularly on the "Canal Mania" of the 1790s and the funding of the Grand Junction Canal, as the canal from Braunston to Brentford was called at the time. There was some interesting stuff about the Paddington Arm and the scale of the Pickfords carrying operation at its peak in the 1830s, which they swiftly abandoned from 1840 onwards to use the railways instead.

I watched that one on iplayer this morning, I thought it was very interesting. I enjoyed episode 1 in Birmingham too.
