DHutch
That's going to come as a nasty surprise to anyone on the Cheshire Ring! Yes, me.... Will CRT put this up on stoppages?Likely not, as it is not their canal. Made none the cleaner by the reason being to demolish a piece of our history that would have made and excellent office/residential conversion that will now instead be replaced with some modern crap that wont last half as well. Paul C
Will CRT put this up on stoppages? Bridgewater isn't a CRT waterway, I don't think they normally do but they might put an advice thing on the Rochdale so it reaches those on the automated alerts etc. Of course, if you're looking to travel on the Bridgewater, its worth checking THEIR stoppages page! Naughty Cal
Will CRT put this up on stoppages? They might do. They did when the EA operated Denver Sluice was out of action.

DJW
This has scuppered our plans to go from the Weaver into Manchester and out on the Ashton/Peak Forest. I called Peel Ports this morning and, after speaking to the demolition contractors, the lady told me the stoppage *could* be over in three weeks rather than the initial estimate of four. I asked if there was a possibility of occasional escorted passages through the stoppage, as I have known CRT to do this in some cases before. I was told there would be absolutely no boats through during those three (or four) weeks. They are apparently inundated with calls about this stoppage but I definitely got the impression they won't budge on this - no through traffic for 3-4 weeks. frangar
The whole of the northwest waterway network is doomed this summer! Cheers Gareth

Ange
You'll be OK via the T&M and Bridgewater, but not via the Macc, Peak Forest and Ashton. Thanks that's the route we were planning. jellybeano
I also spoke to the Bridgewater people today, they said at least 3 weeks stoppage! We are now going over the Leeds and Liverpool from Wigan, where we have been waiting for Poolstock to reopen, rather than our planned route via the Huddersfield narrow. This summer in the northwest has been dogged with problems, but incredibly luckily, so far, we have mostly been the right side of them! Anyone else planning on setting off from Wigan tomorrow to go up the flight, that we could share with??? .

It only became the way it is because it was allowed to fall into disrepair for many years by its current owners. Daniel
Derek Porteous
Didn't know about this closure and tried to get into Castlefield this afternoon. Would have been nice if there were some signs on the Bridgewater, especially at Waters Meeting. It would have saved an afternoon and a lot of reversing.
