Featured Posts

Hi again everyone, i could do with a bit of info.

Does anyone know if Aintree Boats is a good company to buy a New Boat from or if they are crap ?

they are based in Liverpool.

obviously its a bit scary throwing a chunk of cash into a new Boat without knowing if the build quality is up to scratch or which companys deliever what they say on time and in ship shape.

Thanks .

Thanks for your reply Ian, thats good news to be honest we are waiting for a panflet thing to come through the post and we are only 1 hour from Liverpool. really good news.

Thanks ianali

Their "Beetle" range is very affordable and has attracted attention and favourable comments. Is that the type for which you'll be going?

Thankyou Athy, ive seen the 25ft Beetle although it looks nice we want something around the 57 foot range as eventually i may be living full time in a Marina.

The pictures on their site look ok, its just a massive amount of money but were commited to getting a new boat now.

cant wait biggrin.png

Welcome. The only other thing il mention is that when I looked at their boat at Crick show, 57 footer I think, they had a price of around £68K on it. Chatting to a representative of Aintree he told me the boat on show was around £90k. I am not suggesting anything underhand here, just check out the cost of extras !

Ian.

I think Aintree are the corporate successor to Liverpool Boats - who 'mass produced' some very nice, workmanlike boats for many years. While the purists may justifiably scoff at the basic nature of Liverpool / Aintree boats relative to the very specialist builders, my Liverpool boat has been absolutely excellent, no problems with it whatsoever.

No they're not. Collingwood are the successor to Liverpool Boats. Aintree grew out of Skater Marine.

Yer thanks Ian, thats the trouble ive seen a it a few times on Websites, they advertize different prices for seemingly the same Boat, i suppose its what they deem as extra's ie. shiny glossy worktops rather than stadard ones ect..... thanks we will investigate into it properly to make sure on that. we certainly dont want to find out at the last minute the bog seat only comes on the deluxe range.sick.gif

They have a 50ft with price of £63.500 fully fitted at the moment.

Thanks WJM and Adam, ive never heard of LiverPool Boats or Skater Marine but their again i am green to Narrowboats and i have lots to learn.

cheers guys

The extras I can remember were granite worktops, double glazing, bigger engine, bow thrusters, bigger inverter and the best installed solar panels I have ever seen. Saying no more on this topic as I'm beginning to sound like an aintree salesman .

You know what Ian thats another worry we have 'Bow Thrusters', i read this article written by an engineer stating that Bow Thrusters can sink your boat because the Tubes Rust away letting water into the Bow, poor access and not being able to scrub and paint inside the tube he said.

I dont know much about Narrowboats so, maybe someone can let us know if this is true or whether we are worrying about nothing ?

thanks for the info on extras, that will come in handy that.

No worrys Ian, I never had you down as a salesman hahahahaha

Liverpool Boats (1977 to about 2006) probably built more narrowboats than any other company except Springer (1969 to 1994). You'll see them all over the place. For an idea of how Liverpools and Springers look (they both have distinctive features), see the Apollo Duck Narrowboats sales web site. Skater Marine were a much smaller and briefer company; their boss was a member on here at one time, I think.

To be fair that was pretty common with the Crick show boats. Aqualine and others were the same, the boat you were sat in looking at was invariably well specd. with options which pushed the 'from' price up often by several thousand pounds.

Well that's better than being full of it.

Now as to the bow thruster, I have lived aboard continuously cruising for six years and never been in a situation where a bow thruster would have been of any help.

If you want one you have one. They do cost a lot to have fitted for something that sits there doing nothing 99% of the time.

As to the rusting through, yes it could/may happen but that would be down to bad maintenance.

Changing your gender, not surgical, go to top right of page and click on your name, then profile and change it there.

We boated for 5 years and I can only think of one very specific situation where one would have helped and that was getting the bow across in wide short locks in a 60ft boat. Had our boat been 2 or 3 ft. shorter it wouldn't have mattered.

That said the fact we managed to 'jiggle' our way across shows that even in that situation one wasn't strictly necessary.

Thanks bottle, hope i dont come accross as full of shit blush.png

I have said to my dad its just something to go wrong and we might be better off without a bow thruster.

we might not bother, i will let him know what was said on here.

I sorted my profile issue out thanks bottle.

Aintree are a good bunch, we've known the boss guy for years.

As regards the bow thrusters, some boat builders try to cut costs by buying welded tubes, these are the ones that cause problems. I'm almost certain that Aintree use seemless tubes, which there is no problem with.
