Bio ethanol fires ?

o b clathers

Featured Posts

Thinking ahead to the autumn / winter and just wondered if anyone has any experience of bio ethanol fires in a boaty environment

They seem to offer a clean, easy alternative to the traditional wood or coal burning option and (in theory) can be stored when not in use

Any observations ?

We had one for our first winter. Useless as a source of heat and there is a distinct smell. The left over bio fuel was good as a firefighter when we replaced it with a proper stove.

Incidentally, the one we had a large sticker proclaiming it was not to be used indoors despite it being designed to slot into a standard fire place.

I seem to recall bio ethanol is quite expensive and not particularly 'hot' - as in it lacks the calories of other fuels.

As others have said useless as a source of heating, but if you are looking for something that replicates the look of a solid fuel fire it might be worth a go.
