Who's got the oldest LW on this forum?

Yep, its the 1968 engine. Ex-goldmine narrow gauge locomotive and in good order. Needs a rebuild of course but a good engine to start with. Funny thing is we sell 3LWs as fast as we can get them but 2LWs seem out of favour at the moment. Been in our warehouse for quite a while now. Strange as the source of supply has all but dried up so they are becoming harder to source.

Well, if you've any 2LWs you need to shift for a knock down price...... ;)

As our 2LW is possibly the last available example commercially , at least for now, there is only one way the price is likely to go. That isn't going to be down is it! Mind you a brand new, old stock, 4LW did pop up a couple of months back. clapping.gif

By the same token, I wonder if anyone here has one of the much later second series. LWs were in production from 1931 to 1973, then Gardner reinstated the 2LW in 1993 (mainly aimed at the boat market, I think).

Our 6LW is date stamped 9/12/74 no. EN 31-E 210138, but I don't know how common date-stamping was. I've not looked at any records to verify it from the number. It was owned by Trinity House as a standby generator until buoyage was downsized in the Thatcher era. It had very little running time with them. We also acquired a PRM box from much the same period for it from Norris that was still in its original packing case.

We fitted it in Friesland in 1995 so the unit is barely run in yet. smile.png

Hi,

We're completing the purchase of nb Nellie No.1 tomorrow. She has a beautifully restored 3L2 eng. no. 28688. Manufactured in 1930 for Seymour Mead Ltd, Southport to power a Royce Ltd 18kw genset. Refurbished by Gardner in 1944 and continued in operation until 1965. Rebuilt by Danny Williamson in 1999 and commenced operation in the boat in 2002 with less than 1200 hours recorded. We have the full history including the original bills of sale!

Bye Bye K3, hello 3L2!
