My dentist,  Dr Mohammed Gulfraz is brilliant, got me over lifetime dentistphobia [when I was a kiddie I got whacked by my dentist,  ah those were the days!], I've even had a tooth out ?‍♀️. There was so much knockout I had to have a few minutes to "get over it". Previous extraction was cocaine, I recall proposing to a pal who was in need of a friend, that's all I recall!

We have been switched to a new dentist within the same practice if that makes sense. The new one is far more gentle than the old one who we nick named the butcher of Abbeydale.

If only we had asked to see a different dentist years ago I might not be in the situation of losing this tooth now. He would not take my wisdom tooth out even though it was pushing against the tooth that has now failed.

Mouths still very numb.

Just got home. What a strange sensation having a tooth pulled is!

Obviously didn't feel any pain but the pressure and pulling was weird.

Just waiting for the numbness to wear off now.

ETA: didn't take him long to get the tooth out. Was only in the chair 20 minutes thankfully.

Update: Feel like I have been kicked in the face this morning now the pain killers have worn off :(

I would suggest that you forget the salt water mouthwashes and use a chlorhexadine based mouthwash instead - like Corsadyl. The salt water is horrid and the temptation is always to spit it out too soon. Corsadyl is much more pleasant and more effective. What you don’t want to end up with is ‘dry socket’ which is extremely painful and requires another visit to the dentist to fix. You don’t need to ask how I know all this...

Only thing that did it for me was putting crushed paracetamol on it ( cant chew it now ) and take two or three with one or two Tramadol. It was ok for night time but during the day just Para and Ibuprofen.

I have had some ibuprofen today and they have taken the edge off. Don't feel as sore now as I did this morning.

Hopefully it will calm down a bit in the next day or so. The swelling seems to be subsiding a little.

You should feel  better soon. It doesn't t help with my diabetes and healing faster. Keep popping the pills.

Had a tooth out a few weeks ago and I suspect I had/have dry socket, but as it's my one big phobia I didn't go back, just did a bit of googling.

Anyway regular mouth wash and painkillers and it's finally getting better, one thing that does give immediate relief is soluble paracetamol use as a wash and hold on the socket

Well while you have all been talking about the dreaded dentist i have been busy ( jaw and gum still sore after weeks though :) ) Hope you are better now and no trouble :)

Hi all, hope you all enjoying your boating, me, well still faffing about here :)

I was a little peeed off a few week back as i tried a new supplier for some pattern material and fittings which took six days to get here and still waitng for a few parts to arrive after paying over the norm for delivery. I will not be using Snuggtopz again as they are complete useless and unprofessional.

So in the mean time i have got on with the internal vanishing and lining out. I used a hi temp spray adhesive as we dont want it falling off or coming loose on the real hot summer we get a lot of in the UK......a little sarcy there lol.

I did mess up a little on the varnishing as the front panel where the sockets are i ended up with a few runs. I used a foam roller and flatted out with foam brush. I think i was just rushing, No big deal a quick sand otu of the runs and another quick coat will do the job. All the rest is good :)

Looking better now.

All was varnished with Len Tonkinois. Solid wood three coats and veneered was two coats.

Next up is to finish the hatch surround and then i can line the front panel and under the front deck. Still more to varnish on the cupboard door frame sas they are solid Sapele so need three coats at least.

I just want a good few days to crack on with this canopy. I got Fibretex pattern material as the sheet i was using was either to tin and stretched or to thick.

You must be pleased with the results. It is looking top notch.

ETA: No pain from the tooth anymore and the hole in the gum has all but healed over.

Fingers crossed yours heals soon. Have you got dry socket for it still to be hurting after so long?

Yes very happy :) bit fiddly getting the lining up into the corners in the bow but went on easy enough to say i have never done it before.

Tooth wise its getting  better and had it checked and its good, just with being a veteran diabetic it takes longer to repair ones body now :(

Have another boaty project in the pipe line, on a very small scale though :):)

A chap I knew used to work for the local bus company and he, er, acquired a bolt of that hard-wearing, fuzzy, jazzy upholstery material that they use. His cruiser looked very smart inside with stripey grey fabric glued to all the sides ;)

I was off work today as i had to go to the hospital so as it was a nice day fro once i grabbed the chance to start the canopy patterns. What pain in the arse that was, just the two rear hardtop corners to get a nice curve to the canvas.

The Material i got for the patterns is spot on ( Fibretex ) flexible and no stretch at all.

This is the corners that proved difficult o get it how i wanted. All sorted now though.

So then it was mark it all up time for the top section.

Then i made a full rear section although this will done in smaller sections. So the top trim to go all around the top section dropping down by 6 inch. Rear section will have a rear window which can be rolled up or removed all together leaving corner upstands about 6 inch down the sides and rear. to leave all open i we want.

I have gone with Lift the Dot fittings all around and the rest will be Zips fro material to material for detachable sides and rear.

I lowered a bit more the hoop to hope to get a better run off. If not i have aspring loaded bar that can slot in the canopy top when not on board to give a more support.

Looking again at these pics it doesnt look to taught but its better than the pics, i cant remember if i took these be for i give it fettle more.

Saying that if it works i will be amazed lol

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi Rach

Yes but plans have changed, not to bad though . As you may know i was expected an operation later in the year but it has been brought forward and will in May now so that has put plans to launch in May to June as i will struggle with one arm to get it done for May.

So plan is in the next few weeks i am going to get done the BSS work and get it in when i am off in May. There is little to do and i got the worst or biggest job done now. That was the locker seat tops. If you remember it was made from the same ply as the deck was originally used and crap ply from Wicks, which should of been hardwood WBP but it just delaminated a the rear deck did..

I made them from 7-8mm thick GRP sheet that i made.

Alll sorted now

20190406_180230.jpg.3b4287fbfb412221046c0074f737cd74.jpg

Now other things were to slide flex pipe over  the gas pipe thats goes under the rear deck as the batteries are below that and if forgot to do that when i done the gas work. Thats done anyway. Then a few vents around where the charger is.

Made a gas cylinder bracket/steady.

Just to seal where pipe work and cables goes through the lower bulkhead.

So where am i now.

Before Op ( 30th April ) BSS work to be done, then when i am off sick i will do what i can with the one arm i have use of, sanding the top deck if i can etc hull work is still to be done. biggest job.. I will be making the canopy after a few weeks resting and had the cast off. Then in hope  the canopy is done then first three weeks in June will be sanding and painting the boat.   I have bought the fenders, ropes,, new bilge pump to fit when launched as i dont know the low point in the bilge.

Oh how can i forget i have got a good price for the cushions which i really want to be done as when launched i want it  to be cosy for the first few days cruising.

I an going to book the crane in for the 24th June for my birthday well day after. We have the week off to cruise around for a bit.

So it all go from now on with this and work.
