I saw this too. Do you think it would need an additional voltage stabiliser?

No idea sorry. Somebody else will advise.

My guess would be yes.

No, the 12v adaptor should have this inbuilt, it is advertised for caravan use and these have similar voltage swings/surges to boats.

I have seen some voltage stabilisers on sale at about £45 - almost half the cost of the tv.......

That's fine. I just posted the link. You decide.

It is a very high specced TV for the price - I don;t think they will hang about long - and with a 3 year guarantee - you cant go wrong - tv or 12v adaptor breaks- you get a full refund.

I did see this yesterday and was going to post - but didn'T AS i WANT ONEbiggrin.png

Tis for the same reason I haven't posted the item I was looking for and found on the relevant forum. Though I will when I have bought mine in the morning.

Martin, I don't quite understand why you wonder why you bothered? I was merely hinting for advice or guidance, in keeping with someone who has posted 13 times compared to someone who has posted over 25,000 times!

Sorry if my post came across as a bit curt, but my original post made it clear that I couldn't offer any advice over and above the link I was providing.

Post counts count for nothing BTW.

does it come with a German accent?

Of course....I also hope it will make a better job than my current one did from my last trip from Doncaster station to Pollington...heres hoping.

All these modern flat screen tv's tend to be 12v, they just have a 240v lead that then steps the power down to the required 12v. You can just cut the cable, leaving the stabilizer on, and connect to the boat's 12 v system and they work fine. But, I guess the Aldi one is cheap enough..

I have an LG that takes 19V,and a Samsung that takes 15V. Most TVs seem to have a simple 240V cable going into the back, so I guess that transformation to low voltage takes place within the set.

Although it does refer to it as "HD Ready" which means it is presumably 768 rather than 1080 lines. It also doesn't have an HD tuner. I suspect therefore these are some old stock they have bought up from somewhere. HD isn't quite so important on a 19 inch TV, but I still think there is quite a difference and for the sort of programs I watch it is important to me (documentaries, mostly natural history types).

Although it is referred to as '12V', this is coming from an external power block. Therefore, like most 230 to 12V TVs it is unlikely to have internal regulation to cope with higher voltages and spikes. Whether it needs a voltage regulator is a whole new discussion...

I decided that I'd like to buy one of these.

Now this was my first experience of shopping at Aldi, so I wasn't quite sure how to go about getting my hands on the TV.

First thought was to buy online. Couldn't do that. Never mind.

Second thought was to phone my local Aldi and see if they had one in stock. No store phone numbers are given, so I tried the central customer helpline and asked where I could buy the TV. "Sorry," said the product advisor, "you'll have to go round to the store and see if they've got one in stock."

"What? you mean I've got to go to all the Aldis till I find what I want?"

"Yes."

Ah well, you live and learn. Has anyone actually managed to buy one?

eta: Mind you, having read Dor's post, It's perhaps as well I didn't manage to find one!

When I bought what I wanted in our Aldi this morning there was a guy buying one for his motor-home and another guy buying one just for a second telly at home. They looked like they had around 8 or 9 in-stock. I didn't enquire if they had any more 'out the back'. So yes although I didn't buy one I do know somebody that did. This was at 8 as they opened, they may all be gone now.

As for the comments - well I think anybody expecting a 'bells and whistles' TV for 99 quid is a tad deluded TBH. Given it has a 3 year warranty I personally cant see the point in worrying about voltage stabilisation either but hey ho.....

What makes a TV a "caravan TV"? why is this one more suited than any other 12 volt TV is what I can't figure out. There's no explanation as to how it does a better job, is it made to take the fluctuating power, is it more vibration and shockproof, does it take extremes of temperature and humidity better. If I understood the reasons I'd be more inclined to buy one. Having said that at £99 it's a bargain for the spec if the power consumption is low enough I might be tempted.

TBH I think that is just a label they have given it to fit in with the other specials they have got on today including the SatNav I bought. There is a water carrier, a caravan step and a few other bits and pieces suitable for motor-homing/caravanning/camping. Given next weekend is the first big 'camping/caravanning weekend of the year they have just spotted a marketing opportunity I guess, rather than it be based it on any technical merits the TV might have. (12V aside)
