As the title says who do you think are at the top of the boatbuilding game.

I have my top ten. What's yours??

Where would a Les Allen shell come in the top ten??

I've seen a couple of Les Allen shells and they were nice. I'm not ranking them though.

It's a rhetorical question won't affect my buying decision. Just wondering by putting the question out there what you folks think. Going to look at 3 boats tomorrow by 2 different shell builders. So as not to influence replies (or is that open myself to ridicule:-) :-) ) I won't say who built them until back home on Sunday :-)

In that case, I may just answer your original question on Monday!

I'll throw the Lorenz Brothers into the ring.

ALBION was built by them in 1979-1980 from 6mm steel. Most recent survey showed it to be 5.8mm at the thinnest point. I don't think i did a days boating where someone didn't comment that it was a "nice looking boat".

That's a quality shell in my book.

The other boat i viewed and nearly bought instead of ALBION was a Dennis Cooper boat, that was pretty too.

Oh buxxer again!!! Didn't think this one through did I.

OK 1 Allen and 2Hudson to view tomorrow.. The Allen is more expensive and eight years older than the older of the 2 Hudson's. Always liked their stuff though

Now you've told us its only fair to give us links.

I've only tried one SM Hudson for a week. It was like as solid as a tank. I've been to their shows and crawled around a few. Again - all solid like a very strong tank!

I'm not 100% happy with their bow shape - but that's only a personal opinion. Hudsons will become classics I'm sure.

I'm very happy with my Les Allen. I specifically bought one on the recommendation that he was a great builder and used very good quality steel. She was built in 1989 and the had negligible hull wear when surveyed 3 years ago. I'd be very interested to hear why Les Allen isn't in the top 10 builders.
