Amal fuel pump

I've always been a subscriber to the "if it ain't broken don't fix it" school but, what is the butterfly bolt on the bottom of the Amal fuel pump for? Is it a sump drain that should be undone every so often?

It holds the sediment bowl onto the pump body, so needs occasional attention to clean ot the bowl

Just by undoing the butterfly I presume?

Or does the bowl come off completely?

Undo the butterfly and swing the wire clamp out of the way then the bowl comes of completley

Thanks. Can't afford to do things wrong. I wasn't sure if the butterfly was a tap like on the bottom of the water pump. Strange that the manual makes no mention of this necessary maintenance.
