Propane Generator

Fruity

Featured Posts

I'd like to purchase a generator I can run off one of my normal boat 13kg propane gas cylinders. Around 2KVA should be plenty. One of its tasks will be to power a grinder / sander for stripping paint, etc., so automatic load control would be good, ie. the engine speeds up when it's under load and drops back to idle on no load. Something nice and quiet would be good too!

Do you have experience of any makes and models please? A good place to buy would also be really helpful.

Cheers.

Something like a kipor 2600 on fleebay is around £700. Dunno about the BSS rules on it but it won't have any petrol in it so should be easy enough to comply. Will obviously need external exhaust and to be fixed down.

I am sure this has been discussed before and there is a specialist out there, someone will know.

Found it, I think, I am sure this chap has been recommended.

I have no connection gas or otherwise with him. (gas free boat)

What a great link Bottle - just what I needed - Thanks a million

We use propane from a 13 kg bottle attached to a Honda eu2i generator with a flexible kit.

This arrangement allows for easy mobility and in my opinion is safer than petrol.

I believe the above generator will also cover the specification you require.

Kipor IG2600 from Sail and Trail (2300 watts continuous) - they supply the whole kit with choice of q/r bbq or bottle connection.

We have a Honda eu20i converted to run on LPG from Petepower. I can thoroughly recommend both the unit and Petepower.

I think he will also do LPG conversions of your own petrol genny.

Excellent though the Honda product is have just done price comparison with equivalent Kipor inverter/generator, against continous rated power output. Both supplied with fitted LPG conversion and from same supplier, so should be representative:

Honda EU20i: £943/kW

Kipor IG2600: £334/kW

I admit to being surprised myself at the results.

Yes but..

The kipor is made down to a price in China.

The Honda is made to high Quality control specs, and full spares back up and warranty.

You get what you pay for.

Yes but...

How great does the price differential need to be before you change your allegiance? rolleyes.gif

In theory, yes.

But I am the proud owner of a broken Honda and a working Kipor (both bought new, and both treated equally). No discrimination on this boat.

Because of the huge price differential, it is probable that more people (perhaps many more) own a Kipor than own a Honda. And yet, stories of broken Kipors are not exactly legion.

Make of that what you will. For myself, I would advise buying a Kipor.

As suggested clicking the photo link takes you to their website - however their advertised price for the Kipor IG2600 is £769 ( a tad above the price you found of £334)

Sorry Alan but you didn't fully read my post. I was comparing cost per kilowatt of continous rated power.

I would doubt that the Honda will last twice as long as the Kipor, let alone three times. It will, however, almost certainly be quieter.
