Im loving this thread. great pictures and my favourite game, spot the location. Got Tixall lock. Is the top one of your first set Whittington? And I think the moored snowed up boat could also be on the Coventry, south of Atherstone and north of Hartshill. Got a lovely picture of us sat out at that spot last summer. Lock gates could be anywhere of course.

Actually looking again, most of them could be anywhere but agree, just lovely pictures.

'Roving Bridge, Winter's Evening', wonderful photo by Robert Longden.

That was a fascinating exhibition of photos taken in the days when far fewer photos were taken. Yet another huge change. Now everyone (well most people) take lots of photos and just delete duds immediately.

More of his and others' photos here:http://www.theguardian.com/society/gallery/2010/jun/22/canals-narrowboats-barges-history-photography

Thank goodness those poles were removed before the Heritage preservation people emerged. So ugly.

I think if I was walking along the pontoon and saw that ominous figure in the mist, I'd walk another route....it looks like the Grim Reaper.

...or a CART moorings enforcement officer.

Oh sorry, same thing.
