Which is Better ?

So can anybody please tell me please is it better to say have 3*135 or 4 *110 Batteries ? meaning is it better to have more lower amp batteries than fewer higher amp ones.

Thanks All

It doesn't make any intrinsic difference, however be careful with AH ratings as the missing information is the discharge rate. It could be that a 110AH battery and a 135 AH battery are the same, just with the capacity specified at a different discharge rate.

That aside, go for whichever is cheaper overall and be sure you battery bay will fit whatever you select.

Not knowing the houseing of your battery box, 110 ahr & 135's are of different physical sizes, so make sure if you go down that route that they can be safely fixed. 110,s are cheaper to buy. In your question it is 6 of one and 2 threes of the other. Makes no difference, but do an electrical usage audit to make sure you have enough for your needs.

Assuming that both Amp.hrs are at he same rate, usually @ 20 hr then

3*135 = 405 amp.hrs

4*110 = 440 amp.hrs

but you will need to do a 'power audit' to see what is best for you.

Also remember whatever you take out you need to put back plus a bit.

If you take the same amount from each bank you will still need to put back the same but the larger bank will not have been discharged to a such a low State Of Charge (SOC)

Horses Batteries for courses usages.

With bigger batteries there will be less cells to check/fill and physically bigger cells do generally make a better battery.

But big batteries are heavier to lift which can be a problem, but all in all I reckon Petes economic advice is the biggest factor..

Remember to consider the terminals and cables.... Not much I know, but it does add up.

Is this a new installation? If so you might think about space in the engine bay (or wherever you are mounting them). If you go for less of the higher AH batteries do you leave yourself a nice little usable bit of space? Also, are there cost implications for building different sized enclosures?
