Alanji
I had a lucky escape not long after I got the boat when I put the kettle on for the hot water bottle, fell asleep and awoke to find the boat full of smoke and fumes. The kettle had burned dry and became so hot it started the adjoining worktop smouldering and melted the plastic of a gas lighter left on the worktop. The smoke alarms were sitting on the table waiting to be fitted the next day!! A very lucky escape and no idea what woke me (it was before I got the dog). It seems a stupid thing to do since they are often left beside hobs. The will still work if emptied.
