We should have a dog banter

Featured Posts

Most of us here like dogs (and then there are "the rest of you..." )

People often say that it is only a matter of time before any given thread on this forum will descend into a conversation about dogs.

Pretty much every banter thread has several posts about how dog-friendly any given venue is, what dogs get on with what other dogs, and if not coming by boat, where nearby they can stay with dogs.

We should have a dog banter.

Yes every banter is a dog banter in a way, but why don't we have a deliberate one?

The pub should be totally dog friendly.

There should be nearby accom that accepts dogs.

There should be a nearby safe space to walk the dogs/ let them socialise.

Potential idea would be Braunston, with both the Admiral Nelson being very dog friendly (to the point dogs are allowed on the sofas, although I am not sure I approve of that) and the Plough in the village permitting dogs inside. However, the Admiral Nelson does tend to be packed to the rafters on weekends, though maybe less so in winter.

There are two big enclosed dog walking fields nearby to it.

However, no land-based accom that I know of within staggering distance, dog friendly or otherwise. There are defo a couple of places within about five miles though, but that is not ideal

So. Dog banter.

A goer, or not?

Suggestions of location?

You do not have to have a dog to attend, obvs, but if you don't like other people's dogs, it's probably not going to be very pleasant for you! biggrin.png

Date to be arranged if enough interest- not this side of xmas, possibly March?

Location will be set when we have collated suggestions. I am also going to talk to my (non boater) mate who runs an informal casual sled-dog meet group, to find out if there is any insurance/liability aspect to arranging a dog gathering, or what to do in order to ensure we do not need to obey any regulations that might be applied to formal meets such as dog shows etc!

The nice thing about Braunson is the proximity of the two big dog fields, so there can be two groups of socialites if needed, or if two dogs don't get on!

Well, we could have a cat banter...

By which I mean we could all sit in separate corners of the pub, scowling at each other and hissing under our breath if another banterer walks too close to our table...

Mrs. Athy, after a recent visit to the canine-seething Brasenose, observed:

"This is a dogs' pub with people".

Simba and Shiva would be up for it, so would the cats, the cats have said they will just sit on the towpath freaking the dogs out! We might, depending on the date, be able to cruise down there.

Anyone fancy running a book on when MtB will come on the thread to 'observe' that another thread has been been taken over by dogs?
