NB Alnwick
Jane has just come back from the shops with the February 2007 edition of 'Move To The Country' - a monthly colour magazine about village life and country living. On pages 26 to 29 there is an article about selling your home and most of your possessions to live on a narrowboat. The article is called 'Lock Stock & Barrel' and was written by Clarissa Phillippa Greenwood. Having scanned the article it looks like a good read but it is heavily romanticised - IMHO. The estimate of costs shoots well under target - for example: the cost of buuying and fitting out a 58ft boat is quoted as £36,402 - doing most of the work themselves. They also quote £15 for a bottle of gas that lasts three months and £45 for a tank of diesel that will last 120 hours.
Alec Gatherer
I have a tank of diesel that has lasted 4 years. Mind you, I'm hoping to have the boat useable this year....

carlt
I have a tank of diesel that has lasted 4 years. Same as 95% of this forums members isnt it? 3 months for a bottle sounds about right for me? And up until this summer they were £15. magnetman
3 months for a bottle sounds about right for me? Oh, a bottle of GAS. that's alright. £36,402 seems an odd figure, may as well round it down to the £36k. The £2 might of course be for the bottle afterwards but £2 ain't going to get you drunk. "Advice on keeping chickens, bees and ducks" I suppose this is so you can say to your partner "Fancy some roast chicken with duck honey?"
