3LW Oil strainer

Doh!! Just cleaned my strainer in paraffin ready for winter shutdown and can't remember which way up the element went. One end has a threaded nipple, the other an indented orifice. It will go together either way but the nipple doesn't seem to engage with anything either end. Can anybody advise, please?

I'm a bit mystified by which strainer you mean, I can't think of one on an LW that fits your description - even the old style gauze main filter should only fit one way.

 

Is it definitely an LW and not an L2? The L2 has a removable sump strained which can be a pain to refit.
