That looks like cotswoldman you are quoting there.

Dave Mayall is so far off with his present diatribes, he may as well join the MRLB.

I saw this and thought of John!

MRLB?

All I could find was a baseball reference and an airport in Costa Rica...

My thoughts too.

In fact the perception that they are not national (K&A based), not bargees (NB owners) and don't travel (CMers support group) is something that works constantly against them.

The leadership would do well to focus on dispelling these misconceptions.

MtB

You mean by mentioning that this is a London based initiative...oh they did already.

The NBTA London meeting was attended by 3 dozen people, and apparently followed “live” via streaming video by about 100 more. It is important to recognise that education of boaters as well as authority – both as to rights and as to responsibilities – is all the more essential as population pressures grow. Also, if appropriate enforcement is to take place in the interests of good canal management, authority needs to recognise the futility of inappropriate enforcement, by way of being put on notice that boaters are becoming more educated. Meetings such as this where newcomers are able to gain knowledge and reassurance are invaluable.

As a boating 'community’, the one avenue we can have most influence on is, of course, our own conduct, and the latest situational review and comment from Friends of Regents Canal is apposite –

http://friendsofregentscanal.org/features/mooring/overcrowding/KX-Oct-2014.html

Ian Shacklock comments: “This is a space war not a class war and any disputes between seemingly privileged home owners and nomadic boaters are a convenient distraction from a wider problem that the authorities are struggling to resolve.

My biggest fear is that if boating communities cannot police themselves then the towpath will one day fall prey to market forces and some of the people who add most value to the canal will be priced off the territory they care for.

The canal could become as sterile as many other parts of central London.”

Good to see a boating association holding an open meeting for boaters addressing fears of enforcement and how to challenge any threat to their way of life. Shame about Nick Brown's comment to fight CRT in court for the benefit of the boating community, that you would be letting the community down if you did any less. Lots of focus on section 8 proceedings, wouldn't more focus on avoiding any enforcement be better, l can't think many people want to wait until a section 8 to take action. Offers of being a mackenzie friend by NBTA, no mention of previous cases where Nick has been a mackenzie friend and a poor boater with disabilities ended up with

a massive court bill.
