What polish and wax to use?

Well, I have started to give Desiree a good T-Cut and as you can see from the untreated lower left stern door she is coming up a treat.

 

 

I polished and waxed the bits I've done with Meguiars because that's what I had knocking around. I've now run out of polish and wax but when I'm back at the marina next weekend I want to moor the boat "arse about face" and do the other side.

 

Meguiars works well on my truck, but I'm wondering if there is a product better suited for boats? What do folks recommend? I'm not one for regularly cleaning and polishing so something long-lasting would be a bonus.

I use an american wax high in canuba which works well the problem is that once you have oxidation like you have you are going to be up against it. You will be polishing more often than someone who had a shiny boat to start with. It is possible that with regular polishing you will build up a protective layer fingers crossed

We use The_cut first, then Autoglym super resin polish and then a few coats of a good quality carnauba wax.

 

Once you have polished it you really need to get some wax on it or it will drop flat again very quickly!

Carnauba wax. Craftmaster's is excellent. Easy to apply and lasts about six months. A little goes a very long way. I've just finished doing ours for the second time and still some left in a 500ml bottle.

I use Craftmaster Carnuba wax too......alright, Phil is a mate! But it is the dog's doodahs.

Good, cos OH had me polishing my car from a***hole to breakfast yesterday and anything I can do to reduce the times I have to do that is ok by me!

I too use Autoglym, which I am very pleased with. A quick wash and shampoo, followed by spray wax, keeps it looking good. Polish only needed twice a year.

 

(This is the first time we have ever had shampoo on the boat, for any purpose ....)

Five years and wash with Auto Glym shampoo only.

 

We did polish one side when the boat was new, the other side never got done, cannot see any difference in sides five years later.
