Original message:

A vessel has run aground on a sandbar in the upstream approach channel to Clarence Dock. Passage is presently limited to vessels with a beam not exceeding 4.5m (15ft) and draft not exceeding 0.75m (2.5ft). Canal & River Trust have arranged for a tug to assist the vessel.

Any vessel passing the stranded vessel should do so with caution.

An update will be issued at 12:00 today

Update on 17/09/2014:

A Canal & River Trust tug has freed the grounded vessel, the channel is now available with restricted navigation.

Until dredging works to remove the sandbar have been undertaken, the channel is limited to vessels with a draft not exceeding 0.71m (2’ 4”).

Skippers of all craft should keep to the port side of the channel when heading upstream.

This notice will be updated as soon as a date for the dredging has been set.

I did, my response was.. Oh never mind, I'll let you know how the level of the Torridge is next week, when I get to play for a week.

(having gone through last winter on the Avon,I'm well aware about how levels on rivers work.. ;) )
