nicknorman
I thought Francis lamps were compulsory on winkle-pickers.Very true, this is why we are having to get a real one. Mind you, I think I will replace the bulb with one from Jim's nitesun. Presumably for a DH Dullboat an acetylene lamp is de rigeur? RLWP
Check the inside label to see if it states "Made in Tamworth" Are you crazy! I'm not taking his shoes off to read the label - I don't carry the right safety equipment Richard Wouldn't it say 'Gentleman's shoes, hand crafted in Grendon'? Sauce for the goose etc? Or am I instead allowed to continue playing?
Peter-Bullfinch
We use a Durite light with a magnetic base at the rear of the boat. It illuminates the roof of the tunnel plus the boat roof. They are about £50 but extremely good. I believe a light by the steerer is very safe because the changes in roof level are well illuminated. Ours plugs into a socket just inside the boatman cabin. I wish I had had one of these in my early years of boating. A light in this position seems to make steering a whole lot easier too. Grace and Favour
Or one can still purchase a new Francis Marine unit, of course: Suez Canal Approved searchlights are required for safe and legal navigation through the canal. Manufactured from aluminium for weight reduction, these units utilise a split mirror design and offer a twin lamp configuration with changeover facility. With two models in the range, a 380mm (15") metal halide version and a 710mm (28") 3kw version, there is a product to meet your requirements.
